Membership, Fundraising, and Volunteers in 2020

Jenna Egan | Published on 1/7/2021

Due to COVID, many of our MAVA members were furloughed or laid-off and were unable to renew their memberships. We offered our MAVA members that were experiencing hardships MAVA member scholarships. Today, we have 85 fewer members than we did last year at this time. We did see an increase in national and international non-members participating in our trainings and conferences because of virtual availability.

MAVA’s fundraising goal was to raise $30,000.00 in 2020. The MAVA Board did an outstanding job in donating and raising funds for our organization. We partnered with Union Gospel Mission and VEAP to provide equity, diversity and inclusion training as well as personal care items for their clients and neighbors. By supporting MAVA, donors were able to support these two organizations. MAVA also created a new fundraising video. Check out our video below.

In 2020, we saw an increase in college student volunteers. We had volunteers from University of Minnesota and University of St. Thomas. The students worked on projects that included creating a marketing campaign for our November conference, updating our database, public policy, creating our e-blasts, and more! Thank you to our board members, committees, conference presenters, companies and so many more! Thank you to all those that volunteered for MAVA!
