I can’t believe 2023 starts this Sunday! Where has the time gone?

MAVA Membership in 2022

This year, MAVA saw an increase in membership post-COVID lockdown. Today, we have 710 members across Minnesota and the entire country! Fifteen percent of our members are from out-of-state.

On Thursday, February 9, 2023 from 11:30 – 1 :00 PM (CST) via Zoom, the MAVA Membership Committee will host a National MAVA Member Virtual Meetup.

In 2022, we offered more opportunities for discounted memberships with training and conference registration, and complimentary memberships. For the second time this fall, we offered a fall membership drive where members can renew or ‘Buy a MAVA Membership and Give a MAVA Membership'. MAVA will not increase membership fees in 2023 and will continue to offer membership discounts.

In 2022, we were excited to be in person again. This past August, MAVA celebrated members and donors with an appreciation event at Como Park in St. Paul, MN. The event focused on self-care and offered yoga, massage, coloring, and connecting with one another.

In November, MAVA hosted the Great MAVA Re-Connect at Girls Scouts River Valley in St. Paul, MN. Members had the opportunity to reconnect, re-energize, and reassess the current state of the volunteer engagement landscape. More events like this will be held in 2023.

On the third Wednesday of every month, MAVA offers ‘Getting the Most Out of YOUR MAVA Membership’. These monthly membership orientations provide information about MAVA and how to navigate MAVA’s discussion forums, Volunteer Resources Hub, Initiatives and Resources, DEI tools, and more! Join us for the next Getting the Most Out of YOUR MAVA Membership on Wednesday, January 25 at 12 PM (CST) via Zoom.

On the third Thursday of even-numbered months, MAVA’s Professional Development Committee hosted MAVA Connections, a MAVA members-only event that provides members opportunities to share experiences and resources for the development of both professional skills and volunteer programs. Stay tuned for MAVA Connections dates and topics for 2023. THANK YOU to the Professional Development Committee for all of your hard work on these great bi-monthly events!

Fund Development in 2023

After a two-year hiatus, the Strengthening Service Breakfast was held October 27, 2022 at Mount Zion Temple. This year’s fundraising breakfast was filled with friends and supporters of MAVA. We had over 140 people attend! It was so great to see everyone in person. The breakfast program had all of us laughing and in tears with inspiring stories from Friends & Co., ACLU-MN, and CLUES. Thank you to our donors, board members, table captains, and volunteers! We raised over $27,000.00 that morning, meaning not only did MAVA overachieve its fundraising goal for 2022, but it was also the most raised from MAVA’s Strengthening Service Breakfast to-date. We greatly appreciate all of the support we received this year! You’ll learn more about the breakdown of our fundraising efforts in our 2022 Annual Report.

MAVA will be seeking a new Membership and Fund Development Director in 2023. I have accepted a new position at the Washburn Center for Children as the Associate Director for Individual Giving and start the second week in January. I am not going away completely and will support MAVA until the position is filled. It’s been a pleasure to serve MAVA and its members over the past 4 and a half years. I enjoyed learning about non-profits in Minnesota and deeply appreciate all of the hard work each of you does. I also gained friends at MAVA - true and lasting friendships. I am so grateful to MAVA, my colleagues, and the members, volunteers, donors, and supporters. Thank you!
