Member Spotlight: Gina Vetter
Published on 12/5/2019
Name:
Gina Vetter
Position:
Project / Volunteer Coordinator
Organization:
Little Falls Area Chamber of Commerce
MAVA Member Since:
2001 (I believe)
Please describe your volunteer program:
We are a non-profit business organization. Membership has it benefits and one of our best benefits is by volunteering. We have five active committee, with approximately 70 volunteers, work to ensure the goals of the Chamber’s Annual Business Plan are met, along with ensuring our local business economy continues to remain strong and vibrant.
What is your role?
I work to ensure our committees are filled with active and engaged volunteers, matching the individual talents and interests with the tasks of each committee. I also identify and work with volunteers to ensure the success of the events of the Chamber such as the Arts & Crafts Fair, Golf Outing, Sporting Clays events, etc. How did you get involved in Volunteer Management? The sheer nature of my work at the Chamber, we are a volunteer based organization. Our day to day operations depends on volunteers.
What does it mean to you to be a MAVA member?
It gives me creditability in reviewing our policies and recommending change to meet the changing needs and wants of volunteers. MAVA membership is crucial in staying on top of current market trends and what future trends we need to be aware of. Their educational opportunities are excellent resources to continue to grow in this profession.
Can you recall a time when being a MAVA member directly impacted your work in your organization?
What were the outcomes of MAVA’s impact? When implementing committee years of service policy changes by creating turn over on each committee every three years. The methods and ideas found through the MAVA website and other MAVA members on how it implement that change where pertinent to the implementation and on-going success of this structure.
Do you have any advice for new MAVA members/leaders of volunteers?
The loudest volunteer voice isn’t always the voice that should be directing your volunteer efforts and programs. Most often they are just that, a loud voice.
