The challenges facing rural volunteer programs are being exasperated due to the everchanging societal landscape during the pandemic. Based off MAVA’s recent survey of Greater Minnesota, we will do a deep dive into these issues and plan a path forward.
You will leave this session with tools and resources to begin tackling inequalities you see in your organization, such as the need to recruit a younger volunteer base and how to adjust roles to address transportation or internet issues in our communities.

This free webinar will allow volunteer engagement leaders to learn more about the refugee experience in Minnesota. A representative from The International Institute of Minnesota will offer a Refugee 101 presentation, which will describe the experiences of Minnesota’s refugee population, including their journey before and after arriving to the US, their geographic origins, and the impacts of US federal policy. Additionally, we will discuss the contributions made refugee population throughout Minnesota, and how our community can help serve the new refugee population.

Volunteers 65+ have been the backbone of organizational volunteer efforts. Historically, organizations have relied on volunteers 65+ to achieve their organizational goals. The Minnesota Association for Volunteer Administration recently conducted a research study and published a guidebook on Tapping into the Strengths of Older Volunteers. Participants in this workshop will receive a copy of the guidebook and will learn tips and tools about how volunteers 65+ can be best recruited, engaged and retained as volunteers. The workshop will also cover misconceptions about older volunteers, fostering an inclusive environment for older adult volunteers and methods for adapting during the COVID-19 pandemic. This highly interactive and engaging workshop will provide new insights about the volunteer workforce and will offer strategies for adapting during the pandemic.
You will receive a Zoom link after registering.
MAVA will be holding a webinar on Tapping into the Strengths of Older Volunteers on Wednesday, April 7 from 12-2pm (CT). We’ll continue the conversation during April’s MAVA Connections and share ideas and experiences for engaging, recruiting and retaining volunteers 65+. We strongly encourage you to attend the workshop prior to this event, but it is not required. All MAVA members receive free access to the guidebook by visiting Member Resources.
