MAVA is pleased to announce we have received funding from the St. Paul Foundation to continue our Inclusive Civic Volunteerism Initiative for another year!
In 2017 this initiative has included an Inclusive Civic Volunteerism Task Force, distribution of mini-grants for inclusive volunteerism projects, and research and relationship building to learn best practices in engaging diverse and immigrant volunteers in city and county governments. MAVA presented the findings of this initiative in a November training and webinar, reaching over 100 volunteer engagement professionals across the state. We will also be publishing a written report of our findings, which will be available free of charge to members in mid-December.
Next year we will broaden the scope of our work to include partnership with culturally-specific organizations and nonprofits that primarily serve diverse communities. We will provide free memberships to a variety of these organizations in an effort to learn from one another about best practices for engaging diverse volunteers. We will also be distributing a new round of mini-grants to organizations planning inclusive volunteerism initiatives or projects. Finally, we will work on sharing the findings of our 2017 initiative through additional training and consulting efforts.
